"Great potential" for using consumer-led wearables to Detect AF

Dr Giuseppe Boriani (Cardiology Division, Department of Biomedical, Metabolic and Neural Sciences, University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, Modena, Italy) and colleagues — including AF Association Founder and CEO Mrs Trudie Lobban MBE — report in the European Journal of Internal Medicine that “there is a great potential for appropriate use of consumer-facing wearables/apps for atrial fibrillation screening”. However, they add “it appears that there is a need to better define suitable individuals for screening and an appropriate mechanism for managing positive results before they can be recommended by healthcare professionals”.
