Amazing Cardiologist Dr Neil Davidson Passes Away

Dr Neil Davidson, Consultant Cardiologist

Following the death of Dr Adam Fitzpatrick at the beginning of this year, I am again saddened to be writing on the very sudden and unexpected death of Dr Neil Davidson, Consultant Cardiologist at The Heart Centre, Wythenshawe Hospital, Manchester.

Dr Davidson was a founding member of the A-A Medical Executive Committee and it is due to the unstinting work and support he provided with the other committee members that Arrhythmia Alliance is the much-respected global charity it is today.

Compassionate, diplomatic and thoughtful have all been used when describing Dr Davidson who was a total gentleman, loved by his patients and respected by his colleagues in the arrhythmia world.

A former patient and colleague of Dr Davidson paid these moving tributes below:

“I was facing the prospect of losing my nursing career, driving licence and independence. I was getting married and I clearly remember him saying firmly 'We’re going to help you to enjoy your wedding day, not just “get through" it.' And he did! I will never forget how distraught I was because a letter had suggested psychology or psychiatry input might be required but he found the time to ring me up to discuss what he actually meant, which hadn’t come across in a dry letter. Over the years, I have often thought of Dr Davidson and he is one of the best consultants I have seen.” - Patient

"I am very shocked to hear the awful and heart-breaking news about Neil. I had the privilege and honour of spending time many years ago with Neil and Sue on a short vacation. I will always remember his calm and friendly manner, his ability to connect with everyone and his sense of humour. We always joked about how our families could be connected as we traced the family names back in time potentially to Scotland and Northumberland. His knowledge and experience will be sorely missed, he was a great Cardiologist. My thoughts and sincerest condolences go out to Sue and his children." - Geoff Morris (retired VP for Medtronic)

Neil leaves his wife, Sue, and three daughters, to whom our thoughts and best wishes go at this very sad time. A doctor who was well-respected, admired and liked by colleagues, his knowledge was exceptional. A truly outstanding doctor who will be genuinely missed, not only in Manchester, but throughout the cardiac community.
