AF-related stroke will always be a concern
In this World Heart Rhythm Week article, for Health Awareness (as part of their #AFand Stroke Campaign2021), Mrs Trudie Lobban MBE (Founder and CEO of Arrhythmia Alliance and AF Association) says that stroke related to the arrhythmia atrial fibrillation (AF-related stroke) will “always be a concern”. She notes that, without the right anticoagulation therapies, a person with AF is five times more likely to have a stroke than someone without AF, adding that AF-related strokes are more devastating, more disabling, and more often, prove to be fatal than other types of stroke. “We need to detect AF with a simple pulse check to protect against AF-related stroke”, she says.
