Arrhythmia Alliance Pulses NYC

ARRHYTHMIA ALLIANCE PULSES NYC

AVAILABLE FOR INTERVIEW: Trudie Lobban MBE – leading heart rhythm patient advocate and Founder, CEO, and Trustee of Arrhythmia Alliance

New York, NY – October 27, 2017 – Do you know how to take your pulse? It only takes 30 seconds to detect an irregular heartbeat and potentially save your life. Arrhythmia Alliance is holding their first ‘Know Your Pulse’ event in New York City. The event will be held on 44th Street and 7th Avenue near Times Square on Wednesday, November 1 from 9 am to 4 pm.

Arrhythmia Alliance (A-A) set up its proprietary ‘Know Your Pulse’ (KYP) (www.knowyourpulse.org/usa) rhythm check events in 2006. To date, over one million pulse checks have been taken in more than 30 countries; reaching over ten million people and raising awareness of the importance of pulse rhythm to many more millions of people worldwide.

During World Heart Rhythm Week (June 5-11, 2017), over 750 KYP events took place in more than 15 countries with the ambition to take 10,000 pulse rhythm checks – evaluated data shows this figure was well surpassed. In addition, A-A US held two KYP events in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, using the team on the ground only. The focus this year is ‘Identifying the Undiagnosed Person with an Arrhythmia’, as we know that many arrhythmias go undetected until a cardiovascular or cerebrovascular incident occurs – which all too often is too late.

Arrhythmia is a heart rhythm disorder, and atrial fibrillation (AFib) is the most common heart rhythm disorder in the US. Up to 6 million Americans, mostly over 65, have AFib – which if left undiagnosed or untreated can lead to an AF-related stroke, the most debilitating and life-threatening type of stroke. Up to a third of people with AFib are undiagnosed and are at high risk of an AF-related stroke.

Arrhythmia Alliance Founder Trudie Lobban MBE states, “As we launch our US ‘Know Your Pulse’ campaign, we ask people across the United States to join us in hosting ‘Know Your Pulse’ events around the country during the next twelve months. The aim of the campaign is to make more people pulse rhythm aware and to help identify people with an undiagnosed arrhythmia and reduce the massive number of sudden cardiac arrests and AF-related strokes affecting millions of people throughout the United States.”
