GRASP-AF is a tool used in primary care to help GP's assess the risk of AF-related stroke and effective management of atrial fibrillation (AF) in patients. It was developed as part of the NHS Improvement AF in primary care national priority projects by the West Yorkshire Cardiovascular Network, the Leeds Arrhythmia team and PRIMIS. NHS Improvement is currently supporting the national rollout of the tool to all GP surgeries in England and is leading its further development.

GRASP the Initiative Report

The AF Association has initiated GRASP the Initiative, which found that 8,000 AF-related strokes could be prevented every year with the use GRASP-AF  in primary care.

This could save countless lives and prevent long-term disability  from this type of stroke, which is particularly debilitating.

Moreover, the use of GRASP-AF could save the NHS £96million.

Launch of GRASP the Initiative

GRASP the Initiative was launched at the House of Commons on 24th October 2012, which was hosted by Glyn Davies MP. He is the Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Atrial Fibrillation (APGAF).
