Health: Atrial Fibrillation and Stroke

We were proud to see Lord Black of Brentwood putting forward a question in the House of Lords, demonstrating understanding and importance of AF and anticoagulation: “To ask Her Majesty’s Government how many people with a diagnosis of atrial fibrillation who were admitted to hospital with a stroke in 2016-17 were not on an appropriate anti-coagulation therapy prior to admission.”

Saving lives and money – new tool launched to support commissioners to tackle AF

This resource developed by Imperial College Health Partners aims to support commissioners to estimate the cost of not identifying and treating patients with AF, as well as the potential savings of new treatment interventions. The model uses published data of primary care performance, QOF targets and prevalence estimates to identify optimal goals for AF management, help commissioners to create realistic business plans for treating the condition. It helps users to estimate the budget impact of interventions within a CCG or AHSN footprint, and a model for Sustainability and Transformation Partnership (STP) footprints will follow shortly.
