50 participants from all over the low-country got their hearts racing this valentines day weekend by taking part in the Hearts & Soles 5K Run/Walk. All proceeds from this family friendly event directly benefited the Arrhythmia Alliance Defibs Save Lives #HardeevilleHeartsMatter campaign, which works to place Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) in publicly accessible locations. Thus far Arrhythmia Alliance has placed 8 AEDs throughout the Hardeeville community, our goal is to place a total of 30 AEDs overall. While the focus of this event was on Hardeeville, Arrhythmia Alliance promoted community heart health by asking all of the Low-Country to participate.
Every day in the United States, 1000 people suffer Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) and 80% of those people will die as a result. Survival stands at 9% with CPR alone, however with the use of CPR and an AED combined this increases to over 50%. Our Defibs Save Lives program is a direct result of these devastating statistics. The campaign is an education based advocacy and fundraising movement that serves local areas of the Low-Country in South Carolina.
Anyone can use an AED, you cannot harm anyone, however you can save a life.
