Know Your Pulse - Scottish Parliament
Wednesday 22 February 2017
We invited Scottish MPs to attend our Know Your Pulse event at Scottish Parliament to sign a pledge to help improve diagnosis, treatment and support for patients with Atrial Fibrillation (AF), the most common heart rhythm disorder.
AF is associated with devastating consequences such as heart failure, AF-related stroke, poor mental health, and premature death. It affects nearly 2% of the UK population, and it is estimated that up to half of Britain’s AF patients remain undiagnosed, though a simple pulse check could detect the condition. As AF is more common in older patients, the number of people with AF is expected to double by 2050 as Britain’s population ages.
This event helped to raise awareness of these issues and all Parliamentarians who attended were able to have a free pulse check and a free ECG hand-held recording.
Thank you to all those who attended this event and pledged their support for tackling the burden of AF.
