£1m to provide defibs in public places

20 March 2015
Arrhythmia Alliance

Arrhythmia Alliance, The Heart Rhythm Charity, welcomes news that £1million has been allocated in this year’s budget to put automated external defibrillators (AEDs) in public places, including schools.

The charity has now initiated placement of more than 700 defibrillators through its Defibs Save Lives campaign, supporting businesses, golf clubs and individuals in placing AEDs in public places since 2012.

Arrhythmia Alliance recommends that defibrillators are placed in HeartSafe cabinets where appropriate so they can be made available to all in the event of an emergency.

Trudie Lobban MBE, Arrhythmia Alliance Founder & Trustee said: “This £1 million pound contribution to place defibrillators in public places will undoubtedly go a great way to providing more communities with access to life-saving AEDs.

“Arrhythmia Alliance is interested to learn more about how these vital funds will be allocated to achieve greatest benefit. We look forward to working further with Government after the upcoming election to discuss how the important provision for CPR and use of AEDs can be expanded.”

Charlotte Yoxall, from Stanford le Hope, Essex, is one of the most successful fundraisers under the Arrhythmia Alliance – Defibs Save Lives campaign. To date, she has placed a total of eight public-access defibs in locations across Thurrock, with two more planned. She is also supporting other schools locally in raising funds for defibs through the campaign. She said in response of the news:

“This is fantastic news. Arrhythmia Alliance has been at the forefront in bringing the awareness out there about the importance of having defibs made publically accessible. If it wasn’t for the charity there would be fewer people aware of defibrillators and look to have them in all public places.”

More than 700 AEDs placed under A-A Defibs Save Lives initiative

23 February 2015
Arrhythmia Alliance

ARRHYTHMIA ALLIANCE, The Heart Rhythm Charity, has now supported more than 500 individuals in placing lifesaving defibrillators in schools, golf clubs, workplaces and community settings.

AEDs do not require training and can be used by anyone to shock a person’s heart back to normal rhythm if they suffer sudden cardiac arrest. When used alongside CPR, they raise the chance of survival from 9% to 50% as compared to the use of CPR alone.

Trudie Lobban MBE FRCP (Edin), Arrhythmia Alliance Founder and Trustee, said: “Arrhythmia Alliance works tirelessly to support individuals who are eager to make their location HeartSafe.

“The Arrhythmia Alliance Defibs Save Lives initiative has supported the placement of vital AEDs in communities as far apart as Aberdeen and Guernsey. AEDs dramatically increase the chance of survival from sudden cardiac arrest from 9% to 50% when compared to the use of CPR alone; the importance of placing and making these devices publically accessible cannot be underestimated.”

The Arrhythmia Alliance Defibs Save Lives website can be found at: www.defibssavelives.org. Please email info@defibssavelives.org to register your interest in making your community HeartSafe.

THANK YOU to all supporters of the Arrhythmia Alliance Defibs Save Lives campaign.
